Brilliant Cogenhoe set up Palace date as they stun Coventry City in FA Youth Cup

The Cooks youngsters were 3-2 winners over the Sky Bet League One outfit’s academy side, and will now host Premier League Crystal Palace in round three.

The villagers join the Cobblers U18s in the last 64 of the competition, and it is a remarkable achievement for the United Counties League club.

The Sky Blues were strong favourites to win the tie on Thursday, with their players being full-time professionals, but they were stunned by Cogenhoe’s lads, who had to win the game the hard way.

Coventry took a first-half lead through Jack Barroughs, but the tie was soon level when Tom Iaciofano slotted home from the penalty spot.

Cooks then led before half-time thanks to an effort from Harry Darnell, who put the finishing touch to a slick free-kick routine.

In the second half, Jessi Obeng scored to give the home side a crucial cushion, and they needed it as Coventry pulled one back from the penalty spot to make it 3-2.

That set up a tense finale, but Cogenhoe held on and can now look forward to hosting the Eagles youth team at Compton Park in round three.

Cogenhoe have now won five games to get to this stage.

They saw off Rothwell Corinthians 9-0 in the preliminary round, and have now beaten Corby Town 4-2, Brackley Town 4-2, Aylestone Park 1-0, Grantham 2-1 and now Coventry.
