Boss Austin confirms there will be changes as Cobblers prepare for Wycombe date

Junior Morias is definitely out of the clash due to the hamstring injury he picked up in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Tranmere Rovers, but Austin has said there will be other changes as well.

Several of the Town first team squad have had limited game time this season to date or in recent weeks, including the likes of John-Joe O’Toole, Andy Williams, Jordan Turnbull, Billy Waters, Dean Bowditch, Lewis Ward, Hakeem Odoffin and Leon Barnett.

There could also be the chance of some game time for academy graduates Morgan Roberts, Sean Whaler, Joe Iaciofano and Jay Williams, with Austin saying: “I will make some changes for Tuesday night, because we have one or two niggles, like every team does, and you don’t want to take risks when you don’t need to.

“We have a very strong squad here, and everybody is working really well, and everybody is chomping at the bit for their opportunity.

“So there is a case for Tuesday that I will make a few changes, and give some people the opportunity they deserve.”

Players who do get their chance against Wycombe will be aiming to impress, and to see if they can get themselves into the frame for Saturday’s home Sky Bet League Two date with Cheltenham, which is what Austin wants.

“Obviously there is going to be one place up for grabs on Saturday, because Junior has a problem with a hamstring,” said the Cobblers boss.

“We don’t know how bad that is yet, but I would envisage he won’t be fit for Saturday, so there is one place up for grabs on Saturday and it is an opportunity for people to stake a claim.”

There is also a chance that Shaun McWilliams, who hasn’t played since injuring his hamstring on the opening day of the season, will be involved against the Chairboys.

When asked if the 20-year-old might play, Austin, who was speaking to the media ahead of training on Monday morning, said: “We hope so, but we haven’t assessed everything this morning with regards to the players.

“We have one or two players who were complaining of little niggles after Saturday’s game, so will assess everybody and pick a squad accordingly.”
