GOLF: Northants County are in the swing

Tour pro Gary Boyd, who is a former junior member at County, had the pleasure of striking the opening shots last week as he unveiled the indoor facility, which provides two hitting and fitting bays.

Using the latest Flightscope and GC2 launch monitor ballistic technology to help golfers of all ages and abilities improve their game, it also offers a unique, but simple, all-weather feature.

Rouse, who coaches Senior Open champion Paul Broadhurst, said: “Our Swing Studio offers something different as there is the option of lifting the shutters to see the ball fly.

“So rather than just hitting a ball into a net indoors, the golfer can send the ball down the range in real conditions to see the true ball flight.

“We can custom fit a player’s golf clubs for them and, using ballistic technology, the studio provides the very latest advanced insight into analysing golf ball flight, the trajectory and speeds.

Brampton Heath

Brampton Heath are looking to attract more girls and ladies into golf by holding an Open Day on Saturday, March 25.

With no experience required and all equipment provided, the sessions run from 1-4pm and are aimed at girls from five years old all the way up to ladies of all ages.

Head PGA Professional Kieran Thomas said: “Brampton Heath is a golf centre that is open to everyone. With a driving range, putting green and par three course, it is perfect for beginners to learn.

“We are keen to attract more girls and ladies into golf. PGA Coaching is available, we will have free balls on the driving range, free use of the par 3 course. We will also have free tea/coffee and cake!

“All who attend will have opportunity to sign up for low cost beginner coaching throughout.”

British Junior Golf Tour

Friends and family of several young Northamptonshire golfers competing on British Junior Golf Tour can enjoy an additional ‘Tour Experience’ on Sunday as they get the opportunity to follow their live scoring online.

Every group in the tournament is given a mobile handset, which they enter all the players’ scores after each hole into, meaning all competitors have access to a live leaderboard, just like the world’s top pros.

After trialling the system in the opening Super Six event at The Bedford last month, the BJGT are expanding the coverage so that anyone can log in at home or work to watch the live scores for Sunday’s event at Cambridge Meridian.

Northampton duo Daniel Cichuta and Leah Ribano, Kettering’s Chelsey Sharp and Staverton Park’s Euan Cadle are amongst those taking part in the sold-out competition.

Robert Rock

Priors Hall youngster Oscar Bell is looking forward to playing in a competition hosted by a European Tour pro next month after signing up to play on the Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour.

The 12-year-old, who competed in two RRJGT tournaments last year, has signed up for the opening event at Sutton Coldfield GC on Sunday, April 30th.

Rock, who is friends with Wellingborough’s Tour pro Ryan Evans, said: “I will be there to meet all the players, when they sign in, before they tee off, and then afterwards - it’s great to meet them all.”

Nottingham venues Ruddington Grange and Beeston Fields will host two more tournaments on Monday, July 31st and Monday, October 23rd respectively.

NGL

Just a handful of places are available to compete in the opening NGL Order of Merit event of 2017 as the Higgs Bowl receives over 150 entries on Saturday, April 29th at Peterborough Milton GC.

By contrast, the inaugural Dinner Dance, which was scheduled for Saturday, March 18th has been cancelled due to lack of support.
