GOLF: New captains get in the swing at Northampton!

Ian Clarkson and Olly Hickman braved the cold conditions to strike their first tee shots as the new men's and ladies club captains at Northampton.

Dave Goldman has been confirmed as the men’s vice captain, while Sue Kreft will be the ladies vice captain.

Hellidon Lakes

Darren Welsh completed the back nine in gross one over par to win the January Medal on countback from Tom Laver with a net 70.

The second section went to Paul King (73) by a single stroke from Andy McKeown, while Ryan Welsh finished three clear of the field in the third division after shooting net 71.

Overstone Park

Peter Harrison found his consistency during the January Mid-Week Yellow Tee Stableford as he posted the leading score of 39 points.

Fellow mid-handicapper Dave Barry (37) was runner-up by one point from Ken Curley, Julian Hardy and Fred White. Lee Cross clinched the top section.

Cold Ashby

Back-to-back gross birdies on the 13th and 14th holes helped Gary Payne to victory in the January Medal as he compiled an excellent round of net 68.

The 11-handicapper, who also parred the closing two holes, finished a single stroke ahead of Spencer Daniels, James Gibson and Stephen Cooper.

Staverton Park

Brian Coleman carded a birdie three on the 18th hole to win the 11th round of the Seniors Back Nine Winter Series on 20 points.

Ian Lucas compiled the same score to clinch the Front Nine competition.

NPGA Winter Series

Michael Campbell (Kettering) fired five birdies in a winning round of two-under-par 70 in the NPGA Winter Series Pro-Am at Brampton Heath.

Northants County’s Adam Myers carded 71 to claim second spot by one from home club professional Dan Wood, whose team finished five adrift of Kingsthorpe pro Paul Armstrong in the Pro-Am.

Collingtree Park
