Golden girl Robinson shortlisted for prestigious award

The 15-year-old has been shortlised in the young sportswoman of the year category, alongside Amy Tinkler, Catie Munnings and Siobhan-Marie O’Connor.

Robinson struck gold at the Paralympic Games in Rio, producing a stunning performance to win the Women’s S60 50m butterfly.

She became Team GB’s youngest medalist at Rio, claiming a Paralympic record in the process.

Robinson also picked up a bronze medal in the S6 100m freestyle to cap a stunning Games for the Northampton High School pupil.

She will now hope to finish 2016 with a flourish by claiming the prestigious young sportswoman award and she is delighted to have been nominated.

“This is incredible and more than I would have ever expected,” Robinson said.

“It’s a massive honour to be nominated alongside such strong sportswomen across the country.”

Robinson is now making plans for Christmas and for her future in swimming.

She said: “I moved up a group at my club to train with Jacquie Marshall so I’ve been working hard and I can’t wait for Christmas.

“It will be really exciting to be with my whole family.

“I am going to be doing my GCSEs as well as training and competing, so I’m going to focus and try to make sure I do as well as I can in everything!”
