Will Storm Dennis threaten Cobblers' League Two clash at Walsall?

After Storm Ciara left a trail of destruction in its wake last weekend, it's now the turn of Storm Dennis to sweep through the country and put several sporting fixtures up and down the land at risk.

The worst of Storm Ciara hit on Sunday when gale-force winds and heavy rain battered parts of the country, forcing the Premier League match between Manchester City and West Ham United to be postponed on safety grounds as well as several other fixtures.

Northampton's two home matches against Port Vale and Swindon managed to avoid the brunt of the conditions but high winds still caused problems in both games and it's expected to be even worse for tomorrow's trip to Walsall, should it go ahead, with forecasts of 45mph wind and up to five inches of rain in some areas.

The game is currently expected to be on but that could change depending on the severity of the weather and the accuracy of the forecast.

The strong winds against Vale and Swindon did not particularly favour Northampton's direct style of play but manager Keith Curle will not allow that to be an excuse for his team at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday.

He said: "I think the analyst told me Dennis might have an impact on the game on Saturday so I went through all the match reports trying to find somebody called Dennis for Walsall but I couldn't find anyone!

"But it's the same for both teams. One half you might have the wind and then second-half it might be wind against but we don't plan for playing with the wind because that can confuse the mindset of the players a little bit.

"We've got a format of how we play and that's important because we understand where we want to play and how we want to play and that's geared towards final third entries and getting men and balls into the box with quality."
