Wilder tempted to shake things up for Mansfield test

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder will look to freshen his team up for the trip to Mansfield on Easter Monday after their off-colour performance against Newport County on Good Friday.

Two games in three days may have forced Wilder’s hand regardless but a jaded-looking performance on Friday has only increased the chances of seeing several fresh faces come into the starting line-up at the One Call Stadium.

Skipper and top scorer Marc Richards could return following a month out with an Achilles injury while Nicky Adams and Rod McDonald are also in contention to start.

Joel Byrom and Lee Martin, meanwhile, are both doubts for Monday’s trip up the M1 having picked up knocks against Newport.

Wilder said: “We’ve picked up a couple of knocks but they had a recovery day on Saturday and we were in on Sunday and then I’ll pick a team for Monday.

“We lacked a little bit of energy and normal zip to our play on Friday and it looked a real struggle.

“But the good thing about it is I’ve got the likes of Rico and I’d loved to have got him on the pitch on Friday.

“We’ve got other players who can come in. I’ve got Nicky Adams and Rodders (Rod McDonald) so we’ve got to pick the right team for Monday.

“We’ll be backed fully and we’ll go there and see if we can get another three points that’ll get us to 88 points.

“We’re always looking for the next game. These players will just keep going, keep going and keep going, even if this is the last game of the season the players will go all out to try and win.

“That just speaks volumes about how they are and how they go about their business from Monday to Friday. “
