Chris Wilder has told the Cobblers supporters that he will ‘get it right’ in the summer after admitting his team wasn’t good enough this season.
The Town boss says his players weren’t up to the job when it came to ‘key moments’ in games, and highlighted the fact Wycombe scored deep into time added on at the end of both of the games between the sides this season to earn themselves four points when they should have had just one.
I have never been afraid to make big decisions and we will make them this weekCobblers boss Chris Wilder
Wycombe now progress into the play-offs, and Wilder is hoping his players will be watching on and the fact they aren’t involved will hurt them.
“I hope my players are watching those teams in the play-offs,” said Wilder.
“We could have been a team that met them, but we’re not and that’s the top and bottom of it.
“We haven’t got the results, we’ve not done well enough.
“In key moments we haven’t done well enough, and when teams stick it on us at key times we haven’t defended well enough.
“Take the two Wycombe games this season, they have been ridiculous.
“We needed one big header in the 98th minute to get three points at their place, and we didn’t have it.
“Then on Saturday we needed one big header to gain a point from a losing position, and we didn’t have it.
“Wycombe have come out on top, they have taken four points out of the six from us, and they are going into the play-offs with the opportunity of going to Wembley, and we’re not.”
Wilder will this week sit down with all of the players who are out of contract, will make some ‘big decisions’ and set about building a squad he believes will push the team towards promotion next season.
“We will get it right in the summer,” declared the Cobblers boss.
“I have never been afraid to make big decisions and we will make them this week.
“We will then work extremely hard to recruit properly and recruit right to make us better than we have been this season.”
