Way admires Cobblers for turnaround as Glovers boss takes the positives

Northampton’s financial problems were well-documented prior to Christmas when the club fought against the odds to embark on a spectacular run of form which culminated in the League Two title at Exeter last week.

Their latest outing came at Yeovil on Saturday when Nicky Adams’ header cancelled out Harry Cornick’s opener as the Cobblers made it a club record 22 games unbeaten.

Way said afterwards: “I have to say Northampton are a very good team and I’ve got so much respect for them out of all the teams in the league because of the adversity they’ve dealt with.

“Players weren’t getting paid but they stood strong and you could see they are a good footballing team but there were times today when I thought my team went up against them excellently

“We pressed the ball really well and caused them all sorts of problems and you can see we aren’t far off.

“To play against them is a real good test and what you saw was a group of players who haven’t switched off and that to me is amazing.

“We dominated the first 20 minutes and there were spells when we were under pressure but they’re 22 games unbeaten which says to me they’re a very good team and a team you’ve got to respect.

“Their record was one we wanted to beat and we wanted to go for it at the end but there are a lot of positives to take from this game.”
