Revell says Cobblers ready to bounce back as Manchester United come to town

Town's 3-1 defeat at Chesterfield on Saturday saw their 31-match run without a loss in the league brought to a halt, but Rob Page and his players haven't had any time to feel sorry for themselves.

That's because Jose Mourinho and world stars from Old Trafford are heading to town for Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round clash at Sixfields, and Revell can't wait.

"There’s no better way of rebuilding after losing a game than having one of the biggest teams in the world come to your back garden," said the 33-year-old striker.

"The run was going to come to an end at some point, and with a game like this coming next there’s no time for regret. Everyone is looking forward to it.

"We’re under the spotlight and it will be nice for everyone to see with the cameras here.

"We’ve had a good start to the season and this is why the cup is so magical, and we really hope we can cause another upset."

The Cobblers set up the third round date against the Red Devils with a penalty shootout win over another Premier League side in West Bromwich Albion.

Revell felt the secret to that success was that he and his team-mates were positive from the off, and he says they will try to do the same against a United team shy of confidence after three straight defeats.

"When West Brom came here they fielded near enough the first team," said Revell, who scored the late equaliser to make it 2-2 against the Baggies and send the game into extra-time.

"We attacked the game and that’s what we want to do. We thoroughly deserved to win the game. If we start the game as we did against them and grow into it, then there’s no reason why we can’t do it again."

As a player who has spent a large chunk of his career in the lower leagues, Revell is going to relish another crack at one of English football's big guns.

He intends to make the most of it, and insists it is a game that the Cobblers can win.

"I was in the Southend team when we drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and the Leyton Orient team when we drew 1-1 with Arsenal," he said.

"They are great occasions and they are games you look back on when your career ends.

"We’re in this league for a reason, because we haven’t made it to the top. But these are the times you dream of, playing against the biggest players in the world.

"Manchester United are going to prepare for this like any Premier League game, and we will prepare as usual as well.

"We want to go and win, we don’t want to make up the numbers. We don’t want to just enjoy it, we want to get into the next round."
