Page wants a repeat of Vale Park performance as the Cobblers head to Stourbridge

Town ended a four-match losing streak in Sky Bet League One with a 3-2 triumph at Vale Park at the weekend, a result that gave the team a timely boost ahead of the tricky trip to the War Memorial Ground (ko 7.45pm).

Page was delighted with the commitment of his players in Burslem, and he believes the team will need to show all the same qualities if they are to come away from the west midlands with a place in the third round in the bag.

“The foundations of hard work, the commitment the boys showed, not just on Saturday but over the past couple of weeks has been great, because it has been a frustrating time for us in terms of results,” said the Cobblers boss.

“We have had to just come in every day and get on with our work knowing it will turn, and it did for us on Saturday.

“With what we did on Saturday, doing to donkey work really well, that will stand us in good stead for Tuesday.”

Stourbridge ply their trade in the Evo-Stik Northern League Premier Division, which is the same division as Corby Town, and are on a brilliant run of form.

The Glassboys haven’t lost since October 29, and are on a run of five straight wins, the most recent of which was a 2-0 victory at Ashton United at the weekend.

They are currently eighth in their league, but have games in hand and are genuine title contenders.

They are certainly a team Page is not taking lightly.

“Stourbridge had a good 2-0 win on Saturday, they had a win in the cup last midweek, and they had a win in the league the week prior to our game that was called off,” said the Cobblers boss.

“They will be confident going into it, and they will be looking forward to the fixture.

“We have to make sure that we are at it, in terms of attitude, as it looks like we are going out to play on a difficult pitch, and it was a difficult pitch at Vale Park on Saturday.

“The chances we created against Port Vale, if we recreate those chances again against Stourbridge, then I would like to think we will score more than we did on Saturday, so we have to go in with that same mindset.

“We are confident we can go and win the game, although we are not expecting to just turn up and have it our own way.

“We are up against a good team that are doing well in their own division and we have to respect that, and we will do.

“We have to match Stourbridge for their work-rate, for their endeavour, their organisation, and then hopefully the quality will come through.”

The Cobblers have no fresh injury concerns for the FA Cup trip, although Page said he will assess all 11 players who played the full 90 minutes at Port Vale.

John-Joe O’Toole will again be missing as he serves the second game of his two-match ban.
