NENE SUNDAY LEAGUE: Albany on the spot to see off Dons

Albany Athletic have made it to the third round of the Chronicle & Echo Cup with a penalty shootout victory against Northampton Dons.

Albany were 2-0 down early on, but they fought back to lead 3-2 thanks to a Richie Prendiville double and one from Benjamin Eldred.

Dons pegged them back to maje it 3-3 and sent the match into a penalty shootout where Albany managed to convert all their penalties and they went through 5-3.

JA Global took on Sunday Combination strugglers Naseby FC and won 9-0 with Craig Minney and Scott Ramsey both hitting hat-tricks. 
Lawrence Bulliman scored twice and Creig Trasler completed the scoring.

In the NTFA Goodliff Cup, Denton put aside their recent poor form and returned from Abington Park with a 5-0 win over Dynamo FC. Top scorer James Lewis struck a hat-trick and further goals followed from Ryan Machardie and Lewis Smith.

Queens Park were 4-0 winners over Harpole. The Premier League leaders went through with goals from Jonny Shakespeare, Aaron Walters and a double by Fabian Brown.

Also into the quarter-finals are Norteles FC who secured a tight 4-3 home win over Welland Valley Panthers.

Valley took the lead through Robert Read but then Norteles hit back with two goals from Callum Norfolk and singles from Seb Thompson and Jack Burnes to go 4-1 up. Panthers pulled goals back through Read and Simon Barby but they could not find an equaliser.

AFC Brampton won a penalty shootout against Juventus Tigers after drawing 1-1. Steve Hird scored for Brampton with Vladimir Rotaru levelling. Brampton went through 4-3 on penalties.

Houghton Magna are out after they lost 4-1 at Standens Barn, with their consolation from Dylan Hewitt

In the NFA Sunday Trophy, Calvin Budd bagged four goals for Abington FC as they knocked out 10-man AFC Trinity 8-1.

Steve Warner hit Trinity’s lone effort, with Abington’s other goals score by Shane Bouher, Andre Liburd and two from Ashley Simpson.

The Gardeners Arms needed penalties to win Peterborough Halcyon after the two sides drew 1-1, with Charlie Merrey notching for the Arms. The shootout was a good one, with Arms prevailing 8-7.

Halse United lost 2-0 to AFC Hackleton while Parklands Phoenix were thumped 4-0 loss at Northampton Hotspur.

In the Championship, AFC Obelisk claimed second win in three games as they edged past Wootton Field Wanderers 2-1 thanks to strikes from Harry Burkill and Jake Rhodes. Wanderers’ scorer was Graham Shiell.

In the other game in the division, Grendon Sapphires pipped Ise Lodge 1-0 thanks to a goal from Joe Mwamburi.

Hartwell Forest went seven points clear at the top of League One after a 5-2 home win against Northampton Sapphires. Ben Carter, Karl Hoy, Marc Thorp, Joe Sames and Michael Winch were all on target for Hartwell with Glenn Hammons and Gavin Vella netting for the Sapphires.

Dallington Falcons made it seven wins in a row as they smashed Swan & Helmet 7-1 thanks to goals from Alfie Malin (2), Alexis Mbayo, Rhys Redding, Teddy Harvey, Richard Novak and an own goal. Adam Hughes replied.

Sixfields Rangers have leap-frogged over Ashby Athletic in the table to go to fourth spot after a 6-1 victory against the Ashby side.

Connor Leason, Iain Parker and Christopher Lynch all hit doubles for Rangers with Graham Letts netting Ashby’s reply.

Bat & Wickets Reserves’ poor form continued following a 3-0 defeat at Jameeah FC.

The home side who have also been struggling of late managed to get a win thanks to a double from Shepherd Nkomo and another goal from Saloom Saloom.

League Two leaders Oakley Diamonds dropped a couple of points as they were held to a 3-3 home draw with Mill Park.

The Diamonds were three goals up thanks to a double from Marc Hall and a goal from Andrew Spokes, however the visitors fought back to claim a point with Reiss Mothersille scoring twice and another strike from Anthony Paxman.

Moving into second in the table are Sixfields Rangers Reserves following a 5-2 win against White Elephant.

Scoring for the Sixfields side were Billy Torpey with two goals, James Gisby, Tom Carr and Layton Goodwin. Ashley Meeks and Andy Crensey replied for the Elephant.

Alex Kibblewhite struck a hat-trick and Karl Shingler also netted for West Haddon Albion as they beat Abington Stanley 4-2. Tomasz Swiergul and Ben Brakes were on the mark for the Stanley team.

Spring Park have made it three wins on the trot with a 2-1 home victory over Real Roochers thanks to an own goal and a Carl White strike from a free kick. Dominik Berry scored for Real Roochers.
