The 32-year-old wide man, who's slotted in at right wing-back for Town, was chased by several clubs, including a couple in League One, following his release from Gillingham towards the end of the January transfer window.

Cobblers beat off the competition, however, and Marshall has quickly set about impressing his new audience, starring in both the defeats to Port Vale and Swindon Town this week.

"I just want to play football but you've got to buy into what the manager's trying to do," said the former Bradford and Charlton man.

"There's no point coming here and having a different thought of what needs to be done. I'm of the mindset that we're going to buy into what the manager wants to do and I'm going to try my best to do it.

"Hopefully I can help the club and help myself to achieve the end goal. We want to play in the opposition's half and we want to put balls into their box and one of my qualities is putting balls into the box.

"I was sold by how the manager spoke to me and how he conducted himself. He said the aim is to get promotion and we want to be a progressive team. I didn't need any more convincing.

"The run of results spoke for itself and the position in the league spoke for itself. Since I came in we've won two and lost two so there's no regrets - it's all positive around the place and hopefully I can help the club get to where they want to be."
