“We went 2-0 down but responded really well and the tempo of the game was good throughout.

“It was a really end to end game with a lot of counter-attacking from both sides.

“We were down on centre halves, so we had two of the youth team midfielders playing at the back - it was a tough day for them but a good learning curve.

“Raheem Hanley came through half an hour which was good for him and we got some game time into the players who haven’t been involved as much recently.”

Stevenage’s scorers were Rowan Liburd (2), Steve Schumacher and Ben Wilmot.
