It will be Hooper’s second stint at the Cobblers, as he made one start and four substitute appearances for the club in the 2013-14 season, having been signed by Aidy Boothroyd.

The forward has signed on loan until January 9, but is not available for Tuesday night’s EFL Cup tie against Premier League West Brom as he is cup-tied, having played in Vale’s 2-1 first-round loss at Carlisle United.

Hooper is a player Page knows very well, as he signed him for Vale last summer after the striker had enjoyed a successful season in non-League with Havant & Waterlooville, scoring 13 times in 37 games.

Hooper, who never scored in his previous brief stint at Sixfields, was a key figure in Page’s team last season and finished the season strongly, scoring four times in Vale’s final 10 games of the campaign.

In all, he has scored five times for the Vale Park club in 12 starts and 22 substitute appearances.

He has started Vale’s past three Sky Bet League One games, but has yet to score this season.
