Dyche key to Taylor's Cobblers move

Taylor was officially announced as a Northampton player on Monday, having spent time training with the squad.

The midfielder left Burnley, managed by Dyche, after helping them to promotion from the Sky Bet Championship last season.

He is now looking forward to life in Sky Bet League One with Cobblers and when asked what brought him to Sixfields, the 34-year-old said: “I phoned my old manager, Sean Dyche, who I’m very close to from last season, and he knows Rob (Page).

“With my location - I live in Oxford, and that’s where my family is from - Sean came up with the idea and then I spoke to Rob on the phone.

“To come in and train seemed a good fit for me and the rest took care of itself. The manager has been very welcoming.

“I had two wonderful years at Burnley with a wonderful manager, but I was doing a lot of travelling and with a young family - I’ve got three young children - I’m at a stage in my life where spending more time with them was paramount rather than traipsing up and down the M6.

“I had a few offers from Championship clubs, but I’ve got to a point in life where I want to be home every night and I want to enjoy my football.

“I’ve been very impressed with the chairman (Kelvin Thomas) and the manager, and I get the impression from them that I’m going to enjoy it here.”

So what can Cobblers fans expect from Taylor?

“I think my role will be in midfield and I still know that I’ve got more than enough to compete at this level,” he said.

“I could have signed higher up but I’ve been so impressed with the infrastructure of this club and the way the manager and chairman have come across.

“It was an easy decision and you’ll see that I’ve got plenty of room for improvement, but I’ve got to get in the team first!”
