The Scotsman was injured in an accidental collision with Posh’s Ryan Tafazolli midway through the first half of the derby clash, and immediately left the field for treatment.

The confirmation of a fractured cheekbone is bad news for the team and obviously the player, who could now be sidelined until the new year, although manager Rob Page is hopeful of getting him back out on the pitch before then.

“It’s not great for Zander, and I think he has fractured his cheekbone in three places, so it is quite a severe injury for him,” said Page at Monday morning’s press conference ahead of the Tuesday night trip to Bradford City.

“He is in seeing the specialist today, so once we have more news on that we will fill people in, but it’s not going to be a couple of days out, it is going to be more, possibly up to six weeks.

“We will look at potentially getting masks made and things like that for him, and get him back sooner, but it is disappointing to lose him because he has been outstanding all season for us.”

Diamond had been an ever-present for Town in Sky Bet League One before suffering the injury on Saturday.
