Derby's Waghorn prepared for 'difficult' test against Cobblers

Experienced striker Martyn Waghorn says Derby will treat the Cobblers with the same level of respect as they showed Premier League Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday.

Chris Martin scored the only goal of the game when County caused a shock against the Eagles in round three of the competition, winning 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

But now it's Derby looking to avoid an upset when they head to Northampton on Friday and Waghorn, who has eight goals this season, says nothing will be taken for granted.

He told BT Sport: “We are going there to try and win the game and get through to the next round, so that’s all we can do.

“We made it clear against Crystal Palace that we wanted to do well in this competition, so we will go to Northampton on Friday night with the same expectations and same level of enthusiasm to get through to the next round.

“The FA Cup is one of the greatest cup competitions, coming up against tough opponents on each occasion, and you want to go as far as you can to get into the latter stages.

"We know it’s going to be a difficult game, especially as we are going to their place and they are in very good form. For us, it’s just about winning the game to keep this run of form going but we know the difficulties ahead of us.

“We are going to go there and give it a good go to get through.”
