Curle still has targets in mind as deadline day approaches

Keith Curle says the Cobblers remain active in the transfer market as tomorrow's 11pm deadline fast approaches - but he won't be forced into panic buying should his first-choice targets not come off.

Curle would preferably like to strengthen in a couple of positions - centre-back being one - but will only proceed if he gets the green light from the players he currently has in mind.

Cobblers have signed Mark Marshall, Callum Morton and James Olayinka this month while Billy Waters departed for Newport County on loan until the end of the season.

"I sound like a broken record but we don't change because we've got our targets and we've identified our targets," said Curle.

"I can guarantee we won't bring in any player that's not on our radar now because we've identified the players we want to bring in.

"There are still players who we think might become available but we've had one 'no' today and sometimes you need to wait for that no because you don't want to bring in somebody else that might have slightly different dynamics but this is the one you were chasing.

"So we've got clear targets that we've identified. We've obviously signed three already but there's still other people on that target list and if they become available, potentially we could make a move if everything's right with ourselves, the finances, the parent club and the player himself."

Curle will not be rushed into signing players, however, and says he has to be certain that any incomings are right for the club.

"I still won't sign a player that I haven't met," he added. "The financial side of it is secondary because first and foremost I've got see that hunger in that player and see if he's able to buy into what we're trying to do here.

"If I'm happy with that, then it's down to the financial department at the football club - can we do a deal? We know we can compete financially with a lot of teams in this division.

"We're looking for players that can improve us. We feel that's the case with the three we've already brought in."

The transfer window remains open until 11pm tomorrow evening.
