Chris Wilder will concentrate on ‘just driving on’ the Cobblers after being nominated for the January manager-of-the-month award for Sky Bet League Two.
Wilder is on the four-man short list for the monthly prize after leading Northampton to four wins and a draw in their first five games of 2015.
But the manager played down the nomination and says it is merely a by-product of something he has desired for the entire season – the ability to select the same team on a regular basis.
“You’d always rather be nominated for them because it means the team is doing well and winning games,” he said. “We always said that when we had a settled group that we could go well.
“My sole focus is to do well on a Saturday and I do work extremely hard through the week to make that happen.
“We’ve got a talented group which can win games of football and we’ve just got to keep driving them on.”
Wilder has named the same starting 11 for all five matches in 2015 but will have to make a slight tweak to his selection for the visit of Morecambe on Saturday with centre-back Ryan Cresswell suspended for his sending-off last weekend.
“We’ve had consistency in selection, we’ve got some big players back and we are now the highest scorers in the league,” said Wilder.
“The biggest problem for us has been keeping the ball out of our net and that’s been because of the changes in the back four, it’s been ridiculous right the way through the season.
“Now we’ve got that stability I don’t think it’s any coincidence that we’re looking solid at the back and getting both ends right.
“I’m delighted we’re keeping our record at the top end of the pitch in terms of goals scored but you always need a base and a platform in defence to pick up points.”
