Cobblers defender Ben Tozer will miss Saturday’s trip to Shrewsbury with a knee injury but manager Chris Wilder could welcome two players back to his matchday squad.
Tozer was not in the matchday squad for last Saturday’s game against York City and it has since been confirmed he has damaged his meniscus and will be out for up to six weeks.
John-Joe O’Toole will also be missing as he serves the second of a three-game ban but Zander Diamond (hamstring) and Lewis Hornby (dead leg) returned to training this week and should travel to the New Meadow.
Kaid Mohamed (foot) and Ian Morris (knee) both remain out after surgery, while Ivan Toney has done his chances of a return to the starting line-up no harm with a goal off the bench in last week’s 3-0 win over York City.
Former Sunderland midfielder Liam Lawrence is a doubt for Shrewsbury with a dead leg, while three players will all certainly be out with knee injuries - Andy Mangan, James Wesolowski, Nat Knight-Percival.
