The Cobblers have made Cheltenham Town midfielder Jason Taylor their first new addition of the 2015 January transfer window.
The 27-year-old has signed at Sixfields on an initial loan deal to enable him to be available for selection for the game against Southend United on Saturday January 3.
Taylor was described as a ‘fierce competitor’ by Robins boss Mark Yates in September but his departure and the subsequent appointment of Paul Buckle at Whaddon Park have rendered the player surplus to requirements.
“Jason is just what we need right now,” said Cobblers boss Chris Wilder. “He is a leader, an organiser, a winner, he gets his foot in and he pulls people around to get results. He is a fighter.
“We spoke about the need to add people who do the ugly side of the game well and Jason does that.
“We need to be harder to break down and Jason will add steel and aggression to the side in the middle of the park.
“He has had a lot of success with his previous clubs and we are delighted to bring him in.”
