Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes new loan signing Gboly Ariyibi will bring ‘another dimension’ to the Cobblers’ attacking play.

The Nottingham Forest flyer has joined Town until the end of the season, and could make his debut in Saturday’s crunch Sky Bet League One date with Milton Keynes Dons - the club where winger Ariyibi spent the first five months of this campaign.

The 23-year-old only left Stadium MK on Wednesday after his season-long loan with Robbie Neilson’s men was cut short, and Hasselbaink has wasted no time in bringing him to Sixfields to boost Town’s attacking firepower.

“Gboly is an addition we are excited to make,” said Hasselbaink.

“He is a player who has impressed me whenever I have seen him.

“He is very direct, and offers some really explosive pace and width and he is very good in attacking one v one situations.

“He is the sort of player who can get the supporters out of their seats and he gives us another dimension to our attacking play.”

Saturday’s clash between the Cobblers and Milton Keynes Dons was already set to be a spicy one, but the signing of Ariyibi adds that little bit extra!

He is still the club’s joint top scorer this season, with seven goals, but had his season-long loan terminated on Wednesday to allow manager Robbie Neilson to sign Marcus Tavernier from Middlebrough.

MK won’t have been expecting to line up against Ariyibi this weekend, but that could now be the case.

Speaking about cutting Ariyibi’s loan, Neilson said: “With the Gboly situation, we knew with Marcus coming in we felt it better that Gboly went back.

“We all agreed about it.

“There were never any issues with Gboly’s commitment but sometimes you need freshness coming in.

“It has been a difficult season for us, and at times when players come in on loan it can be difficult for them.”

Ariyibi had fallen out of favour at Stadium MK in recent weeks, starting just once in the past eight matches.
