Cobblers in plea to fans to ensure trophy presentation can take place after Luton game

The Cobblers will be presented with the Sky Bet League Two title trophy after the final home game of the season against Luton Town on April 30.

But the presentation will only take place if there is no pitch invasion by home fans on the full-time whistle.

The plan is for a podium to be built on the Sixfields pitch, and for the team to be presented with the trophy and their medals.

But that idea will be scrapped if Cobblers fans go on to the pitch at the end of the game.

If that happens, the presentation will take place in private.

It has become something of a tradition for a pitch invasion to take place after the final home game of the campaign, but Cobblers officials are pleading with supporters to stay in their seats on this special occasion.

The club statement read: “Northampton Town will be presented with the Sky Bet League Two trophy after the Luton Town game on Saturday, April 30, providing there is no pitch invasion.

“The plan is for the players to return to the dressing room for a few minutes when the final whistle is blown to allow a stage to be constructed on the pitch, before the players return to receive their medals and lift the Sky Bet League Two trophy.

“The supporters have played such a huge role in the club’s season, we are desperate for a capacity crowd to be able to view the presentation, but this will only be possible if there is no pitch invasion.

“To allow everyone to share in this very special moment, we must ask all supporters to please stay off the pitch at all times.

“If a pitch invasion does take place, the presentation will not be able to take place out on the pitch but will instead happen in private, which we think would be a huge shame.

“Thank you to everyone for your support and co-operation.”

The Cobblers, who sealed the title last weekend, moved 14 points clear at the top of the table with their 2-1 win over Crawley Town on Tuesday night.
