Northampton Town will entertain Sky Bet Championship side MK Dons in the third round of the FA Cup.

The tie will take place at Sixfields on the weekend of January 9/10.

The two clubs have met six times previously, with MK Dons winning on five occasions, the last of those coming in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in September 2013.

Cobblers reached this stage in dramatic fashion when they scored three goals in four minutes to come from 2-0 down to beat Northwich Victoria 3-2 on Saturday.

MK Dons, who are yet to play in the FA Cup this season, are currently 20th in the Championship following promotion from League One last season.

Speaking before the draw, Ricky Holmes was confident Cobblers could beat Championship opposition, saying: “I’m an Arsenal fan so I’d definitely be happy with them but we feel we can beat Championship teams.

“We went to Coventry who are a very good side and turned them over so I’m not too fussed.”
