Cobblers kick off new season with home clash against Fleetwood

The Sky Bet League One fixtures were released at 9am on Wednesday, and there are plenty of tasty matches for the Cobblers fans to look forward to.

The long-awaited derby dates against Peterborough United come early in the season, with league two champions Cobblers travelling to London Road on Tuesday, October 18, and Posh then visiting Sixfields just a month later on November 19.

Town’s first away trip of the season on August 13 will see them travel to Ricky Holmes’s Charlton Athletic at The Valley, and they then go to Oldham Athletic before AFC Wimbledon travel to Sixfields on August 20.

The short trip to the Ricoh Arena to take on Coventry City is next up on August 27, before Cobblers entertain MK Dons on Saturday, September 3.

The return at stadiummk is in January 21, while the Sky Blues come to Sixfields a week later (Jan 28).

Cobblers fans are going to have to wait for their chance to come up against former boss Chris Wilder, as the first meeting against Sheffield United is not pencilled in until New Year’s Eve when Town travel to Bramall Lane.

The Blades don’t play at Sixfields until Saturday, April 8.

Holmes and Charlton are due to be in Northampton on Saturday, March 4.

The festive period sees the Cobblers travel to Oxford United on Boxing Day, travel to Sheffield on December 31 and then host Bradford City on January 2.

The meetings against Page’s former club Port Vale are deep into the season, with Town going to Vale Park on December 10, and the Valiants at Sixfields on March 14.

Other key fixtures see Bolton Wanderers at Sixfields on November 26, with the return on March 18, Oxford are in Northampton on March 25, while Town travel to Bradford on Tuesday, November 22.

Town will complete their regular season on Sunday afternoon, with a home game against Gillingham on April 30.
