Cobblers will hold 'discussions' with Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion over the possibility of taking Scott Wharton and Callum Morton on loan again next season.

Centre-back Wharton was brought in on a season-long loan last summer while Morton joined during the January transfer window and both became key figures during Town's play-off success.

Wharton, 22, was a consistent presence in the back three throughout the season, playing 43 times in all, whereas 20-year-old Morton made a more explosive impact, netting eight goals in 12 appearances, including three in the play-offs.

Now on their way up to League One following promotion, Cobblers will be hoping to hang on to their two loan stars.

"Considering the players on loan did so well for us, we will be having discussions with their parent clubs over the course of the summer," said Curle.

"This is a difficult summer with the impact of COVID-19 on the industry and we have been very transparent about that from the very start with the players.

"The industry is having to make adjustments and that is being reflected across the game. As a club, it is important show good housekeeping in these difficult times."

The impact of Wharton and Morton is testament to Town's recruitment department, and Curle is confident they can find more gems this summer.

He added: "The credit and the plaudits go to the recruitment department that I brought to the club in Simon Tracey and the rest of the coaching staff and the scouting team.

"They know what I'm looking for and they know the credentials and the type of characters that I want and they're not easy to find.

"We don't just want good players. They've got to fit into what we're trying to create and what we want to build here.

"We know we're still on a journey but we've created that upward curve which is something we wanted to do from the moment we walked into the football club."
