There was also good news for a Northampton player, as goalkeeper Adam Smith got the nod as the stopper in the Football League team of the season.

No Cobblers outfield player was named in the 11, which was made up of players from the Championship, League One and League Two.

Ricky Holmes was nominated for the League Two player of the season award, but he missed out to Oxford United’s Kemar Roofe, who is a former Cobblers loanee.
