Cobblers boss Chris Wilder's switch to Charlton Athletic is off

Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill have been in negotiations with the south London club since Monday.

The Town boss was expected to be announced mamager of the Addicks this week, but Charlton announced today the deal is off.

A club statement read: Charlton Athletic can confirm that following discussions with Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill over the vacant managerial role at The Valley, the club has been unable to reach an agreement.

“The club will now continue its search for a candidate to take the club forward. Any further announcements will be made in due course.”

The Cobblers confirmed that talks between Charlton and Wilder had broken down, but chairman Kelvin Thomas has suggested there may be interest from another club, although no official approach has been made.

Thomas said, “We understand there is further interest in Chris and Alan, however we have had no official approach at this point but I will be sitting down with Chris to discuss further.

“As we said on Monday and in the best interests of the club, we are keen for this matter to be brought to a conclusion as quickly as possible.”
