Chuffed Edinburgh says Cobblers deserved their point after late show at Rochdale

Trailing 1-0 to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s goal on the hour-mark, Northampton toiled hard to get something out of the game but when two of three added minutes passed, and after Paul Anderson had twice struck the woodwork, it seemed they were condemned to defeat.

There was a very late twist, however, when Anderson this time corrected his radar right by brilliantly lifting over Conrad Logan having been set through on goal by Adam Smith’s long clearance.

“I thought it was probably what we deserved,” said Edinburgh afterwards.

“I’m pleased for Paul because I thought he was the catalyst for a lot of our good attacking play today and he was unlucky on a couple of occasions.

“Credit to the players because they’ve gone right to the end and it was a well-earned and well-deserved point.

“We’ve certainly been getting stronger on our travels and I’m pleased because there’s a lot of work going on in the training ground.

“I thought we looked tight and strong in our shape without the ball but we were loose in possession sometimes and just made that wrong decision when we could have slipped through a couple of balls and there might have been a better outcome.

“But all in all, they’ve given me everything again and I’m pleased with another away performance and result at a club who are pushing for the play-offs and who are lethal at home.”

The draw takes Town up to 51 points in Sky Bet League One, a mark that has been Edinburgh’s target for some time, but with five games to go he knows his side might still need more.

He added: “Everyone keeps winning below but we’ve just got to worry about ourselves and continue to put performances in.

“We were backed by a good support and people rightly want to see the team perform well and we did that today.”
