Midfielder Joel Byrom believes the current Cobblers squad is as good as any he has been a part of in his career, and has called on the team to start a charge up the Sky Bet League Two table.
Town entertain leaders Leyton Orient at Sixfields on Saturday (ko 3pm), and go into the game on the back of two wins, with their 4-2 hammering of Morecambe last Saturday following on from the 1-0 win over Oxford United.
Byrom says spirit in the camp is good, and that the team need to maintain the current feelgood factor.
“I enjoy playing in this team, and it has as much quality as any squad I have been in,” said Byrom, who scored his first goal of the season at Morecambe. “We have to really get ourselves going now.
“We have got the two wins on the bounce and we now have to kick on and look towards getting up the league.
“The atmosphere in the dressing room has always been positive throughout the season, even when we’ve had bad results.
“We have tried to improve, and the two results we’ve just had have been very good for us, and we’ve just got to try and take that forward.
“As the manager has said, we can’t become a yo-yo team.
“We have to take confidence from both of the games we’ve just played, a performance against Oxford where we really dug in with 10 men, and another performance where we played Morecambe off the park and opened them up with some good football.
“You can see that we have both sides to our game, and there are a lot of strong characters in the dressing room.”
A big crowd is expected at the weekend, and Byrom added: “It’s a great game for us. Leyton Orient have started well, but we’re a team coming into form now.
“We have to now really start picking up a lot of points, especially at home, and making Sixfields a fortress.
“You get excited for every game, but you do have games like the Oxford one where the atmosphere was really good, and the fans were brilliant. For the last 20 minutes, especially with us down to 10 men, they really kept us going.”
