Boss Page asks for patience as he sets about boosting Cobblers squad

Page has been in the Sixfields hot seat for almost three weeks now and is still getting used to his new surroundings after taking over from Chris Wilder.

The Welshman has already declared how happy he is with the squad he has been left with. and says he won’t be bringing ‘anybody into this football club for the sake of it’.

As it stands, Page has made one signing in right-back Aaron Phillips from Coventry City, while Nicky Adams has left and signed for Carlisle United and Danny Rose has turned down his contract offer from Town and opted for a move to Portsmouth.

The club had already released five players following the conclusion of their league two title-winning campaign, and loan players John Marquis, Luke Prosser and James Collins all returned to their parent clubs.

It means the Cobblers squad is currently made up of 17 players, but that number includes two goalkeepers as well as 17-year-old academy graduate Shaun McWilliams.

Page has already stated he wants at least two players for each position so there is still plenty of work to do ahead of the new campaign, but the manager is relaxed about what needs to be done and urged patience as he and head of recruitment Andy Melville go about their work.

“We don’t want to bring in anybody into this football club for the sake of it,” said Page.

“This football club has had a fantastic season and if we are going to bring players in, and we want to bring players in, then we want it to be the right type of player that fits the bill from a character point of view.

“We want players that are going to benefit this football team as well.

“We have to be patient at the minute.

“There will be signings made, but as I said they have to be the right signings and players that will help us improve as a football club and as a team.”
