Ripley happy with how Panesar slotted in during Northants' trip to Barbados
David Ripley says Monty Panesar has slotted nicely into place at Northants.
But he says the next step is for the spinner to step up his bowling work after the recent 10-day tour of Barbados.
Northants returned from their time away last Sunday, but Panesar, who opted to fund his own trip to be part of the squad, was unable to bowl.
He continues to recover from shoulder surgery and was limited to helping out the squad and doing rehabilitation work.
But he has blended in well, according to Ripley, who says his county will continue to take things slowly with the 33-year-old England international.
“Monty has carried on his rehab and he got on well in the group, but unfortunately he hasn’t managed to progress his bowling as much as we’d have hoped before we left,” Ripley said.
“But he’s keeping up with his physical work and the next stage for him is to start stepping up his bowling load.
“We’re taking this very slowly from both sides.
“The first thing was that he’s been amongst the lads for 10 days and he’s got on well with everyone.
“If he is to progress any further we need him to demonstrate that he can slide into the dressing room nicely and the first stages of that have gone well on tour.”
