BOXING: Pressure off for Chantelle Cameron as she heads to Sofia

The Far Cotton fighter will be representing Great Britain in the 60kg division, with her first bout coming on Tuesday (November 15).

But after missing out on the Rio Olympics, Cameron is determined to be more relaxed heading into competitions.

And after claiming bronze at the recent Queens Cup in Germany, she said: “I’m looking forward to the European Championships as it may be my last tournament as an amateur at a major.

“In the new year I will be looking at new things so I am really excited because I’m going out to Bulgaria to really enjoy myself.

“I have absolutely no pressure, which is strange for me because usually in my boxing career I have had nothing but pressure after pressure.

“So this tournament is going to be relaxed and I’m going out there to perform and enjoy the moment.”

Reigning national champion Eithan James showed all his class with a superb display against fellow double champion Josh Babb in Darlington last weekend.

James claimed a comprehensive unanimous points win against the Ward Dagnen scrapper, who was hoping to reverse a close points decision from the Kings Heath show in October.

James received numerous plaudits from the knowledgeable north east officials, who complimented him on his attack and defensive skills, which were a pleasure to watch.

Button twins Bobby and Billy completed a Kings Heath hat-trick as they claimed unanimous points wins against Kane Donaghue (Bishop Auckland) and Lewis Bennet (Ward Degnans) respectively.

“This was a very satisfying day away from home,” said Kings Heath head coach Arthur Daly.

“Our lads were tremendous and none of them were fazed.

“All three turned on the style, but the dividends have come from the hard work in the gym and it was good to see it all come together.

Meanwhile, James Button claimed his first title as he overcame his toughest opponent to date, former national champion and England international Thomas Hessan (Waterfont).

The bout was made at 69kg over three three-minute rounds at the Cripps Centre in Northampton.

In a tough encounter, Button had done enough in the first two rounds to secure a unanimous points win in what was the NABC East Midland final.

“James has got a very bright future,” said Daly.

NORTHAMPTON ABC celebrated five wins from as many bouts at the Cripps Centre last weekend.

Nathan Elston, Kamil Anynz, Dave Bowden, Rhys Parks and Yayha Abdulla were all victorious.
