BOXING: Kings Heath's Fitzharris delivers a fantastic display

Fitzharris was a unanimous decision winner against the experienced Zain Harris (Purge).

Fitzharris is one of three brothers who box for the Kings Heath outfit and he was too aggressive from the outset.

The win will give him the chance to have a shot at this season’s Schoolboy Championships.

Meanwhile, female reigning youth champion Simran Kaur and Eithan James spent the weekend with the England selectors preparing for the forthcoming European Championships.

Kings Heath-based proffesional boxers Kieron Conway and Conroy Downer are now in the final preparations for Northampton’s big show at The Deco on March 9.

Conway will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record against Chris Monaghan from Manchester in a genuine 50-50 bout and will be tested to the limit by the Pat Barrat-trained fighter over eight three-minute rounds.

Conway is trained by his father, James, and managed by MTK Global.

And he will need to be at his best as he looks to progress onto title honours.

This bout, which will be headlining the Northampton show, will be the acid test in his fledgling career.

Conway has captured the eye with his latest performances and has prepared thoroughly at the Kings Heath gym.

Some serious open sparring with reigning British middleweight champion Tommy Langford will hold him in good stead against a dangerous and quality opponent.

FOUR Far Cotton ABC fighters were in action last weekend.

At Leicester, three schoolboys took to the canvas in the club’s colours, with James Lauder, Niall Tee and Cole Connelly showing their ability.

Lauder was first up as he boxed against Abu Farooq from Purge Boxing Academy.

The Far Cotton ace won the fight on a split decision.

Lauder boxed a more experienced fighter, but this did not faze him as he took the centre of the ring and with his southpaw style.

He dominated the fight and caught his opponent with some lovely shots.

Lauder showcased some impressive boxing skills and this was his third win in as many fights for the club.

Second up was Tee, who boxed against Owen Fox from Clifton ABC.

Tee started the first round on the front foot and dominated by controlling the centre of the ring and counter-punching Fox.

In the second round, Tee listened to instructions from head coach John Daly, mixing his punches up and throwing combinations to head and body.

Body shots were hurting Fox and his corner opted to retire their fighter in the third round.

Connelly was the last to fight, taking on Zayann Ahmed.

The Far Cotton boxer lost the fight on a split decision but put in a big performance in a bout that was given the fight-of-the-night accolade.

Connelly had a tricky opponent in Ahmed and though he did his best to cut the ring off and close his opponent down, experience showed at the end.

This was Connelly’s second fight for the club and he is only going to get better with time.

A day later, Kai Church took a last-minute fight at Derby County Football Club’s Pride Park stadium.

Church was up against One Nation’s Slanie Nolan and won the fight on a split decision.

Church put in an outstanding performance in what was later named the fight of the day.

The Far Cotton fighter started strongly and maintained his strength throughout the three rounds.

Nolan was a tough opponent who was up for a fight, but the fact he was a front-foot fighter suited Church.

He managed to use his boxing skills and catch Nolan with some lovely combinations.

In that past month, Church has been in action six times, winning on each occasion.

Far Cotton head coach Daly said: “I am very proud of the boys’ performance and the determination that they are showing in wanting to win their fights.”
