The 20-year-old from Far Cotton dominated his four-round fight with Swindon’s Ben Heap at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, winning every session on the referee’s scorecard.

His performance left coach John Daly beaming.

Daly, who trained Brown throughout his 42 amateur bout career with Far Cotton ABC, said: “Drew looked very tidy. I was very pleased.

“He certainly boxed to instructions.”

The instructions were to jab - and Brown controlled the fight with his left hand.

Heap was strong, game and came to win, but Brown never let him into the fight.

“The jab stopped him in his tracks time and again,” said Brown, sponsored by A1 County Couriers.

“I kept a cool head, didn’t rush my work and boxed his head off. I didn’t really take a punch throughout the whole fight. I loved it.”

Brown has now won both his professional fights.

He was a points winner over Kevin McCauley on his professional debut at The Deco in April - and should be back in action there on Saturday, September 3.

Promoter Errol Johnson is planning to top the bill with fans’ favourite Jamie Spence on his next show in the

town.

Brown is likely to be matched over four rounds.

Daly added: “When the fights are longer, Drew will break them down. His body shots will take it out of them.”

Former Kings Heath ABC ace Reuben Arrowsmith took a day out of training for his next professional bout to support Duston’s day of sport.

Arrowsmith teamed up with fellow England international and Great Britain No.1 Eithan James, as well as many more members of the Kings Heath team, to promote sport and boxing within the community.

Arrowsmith, unbeaten and promoted by the legendary Rick Hatton, travelled down from Manchester and gave a number of scintillating rounds on the pads.

He is currently finalising his preparations for this month’s bout in Cannock, where he will look to maintain his unbeaten record in his sixth outing within a

year.

“Reuben and Eithan have won 13 national titles between them and represented England more than 25 times,” Kings Heath head coach Arthur Daly said.

“Both of them medalled at the European Championships, which is a terrific achievement for them and the club.

“Unsurprisingly, Reuben hasn’t forgotten his roots and it was good to see one of our old champions, even though he is only 19, with one of our new ones.

“It really shows the unity within our team at Kings Heath.”

Tickets are available for Arrowsmith’s next bout from the Kings Heath Gym,

which is now open from 5.30pm to 9.30pm on a daily basis.

The gym incorporates a beginners class from 5.30pm onwards.
