A Drayton 20-2 for Leon Butcher
A Drayton 20-2 for Leon Butcher

Draw the right peg and that was the weekend for river-roach that was – whether you were on the Nene, Ouzel, Tove or Ouse!

Redfins were queuing up to feed in Wellingborough’s Ringstead Nene do where 21 out of 24 weighed-in in the club’s first match of the year.

Billy Underwood was top of the pile with 15-4 ahead of Sam Corteze 9-3, Roger Johnson 9-2 and Malcolm Sylvester 8-2.

MILES away in the middle of Newport Pagnell, Kevin Osborne was busy cashing-in in even finer style on the Ouzel near where it joins the Ouse, bagging – a few dace apart – 20-6 of roach as he fished maggot under stickfloat on running line in an MKAA match. Bob Gale was next with 18-14 of worm perch.

UPSTREAM on another Ouse Tributary, the Tove, Mick Goodridge was busy winning the Towcester/Nene sweep from a totally unfancied swim. Following a slow start he switched from whip to pole and netted a hundred or so fish – roach to 10 ounces and dace to six – to win with 17-12. John Broughton had 10-7 and Dave Gibbins 5-4.

AND the embryonic Ouse at Buckingham didn’t fish too bad for Calvert, either, as Ben Holloway won there with 12-9.

TRAKKER Clothing’s Lawrence East had 24 carp to 21lb from 35 runs in 24 hours on Drayton. Leon Butcher had a 20-2.

THE RINGERS’ sell-out Boddington pairs saw a brace of perfect two-point scores with Nathan Gooderman (nine carp for 106lb) and Darren Sparrow (35lb) winning on weight from Kevin Forster and Martyn Ockwell, the latter getting 22lb between them from hard sections.

Snowy Ashington and Richard Edmunds were third on weight in a five-point tie with Dave Martin and Lee Jones.

DENNETTS & Heyford, Dog Lane: Darren Oakley 60-14, Fiona Dennett 57-12, Alan Knight 43-6, Dave Jackson 27-10. Warren Butler won
the payout for the largest perch.

CASTLE Ashby: Wed., Brickyard, Ron Coles 48-6, Alan West 18-12, Chris Prigmore 16-4; Sat., Brickyard, Courtney Hewlett 29-4, Mark Moody 29lb, Wayne Robinson 16-4; Sun., Grendon, Ian Drage 70-8, Darren Driver 52-4, Mark Davis 38-12; Sun., Scotland, Hewlett 29-14, Kevin Taylor 19-3, Mark Morgan 16-13.
