Three early wins in a row had the Meadowlands teams of three looking like a dead cert for Team Ringer...and they did eventually win.

But following Sunday’s sixth and final round the threesome’s one-time 30+ point lead had withered away to just six – with Cherry Pie Trio coming up faster than a gold cup winner on the inside!

‘Pie romped home on the day to top the 16 team field with seven points, eight clear of second-placed Lowdowns.

Overall, that left Ringers on 102, ‘Pie on 108 and Lowdowns 132, with Baileys and Snowy’s tied on 141...while the latter’s Ed Warren stormed to individual final leg glory with 141-8 – almost 90lb clear of the next man!

MAKINS’ individual league saw Andy Ingleson win on 11 points, followed by Chris Harrison 14 and Adam Rooney 17.

Jonny Jenkins won the final round with 73-12.

OLNEY’s Ouse came alive in the dying days of the river season. GoneFishin staffer Jack Moroney had chub of 6-14 and 6-4 on meat in one short evening session, and Paul Callan upped his perch best to 4-3 while Ross Deadman also netted a 6-14 chub.

ON MKAA’s Ravenstone Ouse, Mike Sando tangled with what could have been the river pike of a lifetime when a jack he’d hooked was grabbed by a fish estimated at ‘way over 20’ – but which eventually let go after chewing a chunk out of the jack.

BISHOPS Bowl’s pairs series went to Jake King and Dave Smart, one point clear of Mark Skeggs and Damian Green. Pablo Grant won the final leg with 66-8.

STANWICK’s best was John Hinks’ 24lb common. A
similar-sized fish fell to town’s Dave Evans at Bishops Bowl.

WHITE Hart Flore, Tofts: Dave Cleaver 99-8, John Berry 71lb, Keith Bishop 45lb.

CASTLE Ashby, Brickyard: Gary Millward 24-6, Jeff Rice 22lb, Lloyd Haynes 18-8.

FINEDON, Dennetts: John Sumpter 17-8, Dave Ross 13-6, Mark Clemmet 7-10.

CASTLE, spring league, Canons: Alan West 17-6, Dave Keech 15-14, Pat Neave and John Lewis both 11-6.

REGULARS and Dolphins are joint winners of Flore & Brockhall’s teams of three. Tony’s Trio man Dean Wilson topped the Dog Lane final with 8-5.

NENE points series: John Balhatchett is overall champ despite not framing in the
final leg (won by Pete Lawton with 5-3, Heyford cut)
four points clear of Dave Gibbins.

TOWCESTER, Tove: Graham Martin 9-8, Dave Gibbins 7lb, Mick Goodridge 4-8.

FIXTURES: Nene AGM, April 13, Yeoman of England, Wootton; May 3 AT & CRT national pairs champs round, Yardley cut, practice opens on April 12, 19 & 26 07711 086436.
