And that huge catch, making him top weight by far in the latest Ringer Pairs, consisted of just 27 carp to 18-8...almost four times the total of runner-up Matt Vater.

Not surprisingly Steve and bro Phil finished as top pair with three points followed by Glen Maxwell and Neil Russell on four, with Ash Smith and Joe Whiley on five.

WHITE Hart Flore’s Barby Banks do saw Dave Walker with 99lb, John Berry 66lb and Tom Buck 58-6. In the club’s old geezers midweek do Ron Collins won with 162-13 as Tom Griffiths had 103-14 and Glen Tilson 38-11.

MAKINS GURU pole-only series was a close-run thing with Mark Collins overall winner on 14 points – just one ahead of Wayne Sharman as Lee Farmer, also on 15, went third on a countback. Gary Cook topped the final round with 81-2.

ADAM Short fished into the dark on closing day on Olney’s Ouse – and was rewarded with an 8-9 bream to beat his PB by a clear pound.

GILDERS Dan Todd finished the river season on the Trent, using eight ounces of lead to hold bottom...and netting five barbel to 5lb.

OLLY Pruden was on form at Stanwick – getting a 23lb common from Elsons before shifting to Mallard and banking a 30-4. Dan Hyde had a 26-10 mirror.

OPENING day on Ringstead saw Sean Roe taking nice trout – and winning a bottle of champers from bailiff Pete for being the first to catch a spotty on the fishery’s new Ringstead Ramsay fly.
