I don’t know if any of your readers think the same as I do and think that this so-called bus station that Northampton has is not fit for purpose.
Northampton has gone back forty years in time where people are boarding buses in The Drapery again. When Greyfriar’s bus station opened it was the envy of the country, then over the years the council neglected to keep up with the maintenance and let the building fall into disrepair. At the moment we have buses causing a bottleneck in The Drapery and along Bradshaw Street. People that disembark in the so-called bus station and want to go to the Grosvenor Centre have to cross the road in Sheep Street and along The Parade regardless of the weather. With the Greyfriar’s bus station people disembarked, went down the escalator and made their way to the Grosvenor Centre and could keep dry in the wet weather and could board buses in the dry unlike the current situation. I think a new up-to-date bus station should be built on the site of the old Greyfriar’s bus station and all the entrances to the Grosvenor Centre be reinstated and the so-called bus station be used as a coach station as it would be more of a welcome environment than waiting in all types of weather for a coach in Victoria Street.
