Young basketball fans meet 7ft 8ins Harlem Globetrotter at their Northampton club

Former Harlem Globetrotter Paul Sturgess paid a visit to the Duston Hawks Community Basketball Club at Duston School.

Paul, who is 7ft 8ins tall visited the club and spoke to the young players as well as children from the surrounding primary and upper schools. Kim Ormshaw, from the club, said: “The kids were all star struck. They just couldn’t get over how tall he was. Paul is 7ft 8ins tall and wears a size 20 shoe. It was great to have such a fantastic turnout. Paul spoke to all the children and told them his success story and truly inspired them. Paul lead the training sessions and showed a few tricks of the trade.”

Paul stayed afterwards for photographs and autographs. One of the boys even took off his basketball shoe and asked him to sign it, and he did.

Duston Hawks is a community basketball club which operates 100 per cent on volunteers. It caters for children aged 7-19 years old and training is held at The Duston School every Friday evening during term time, from 4.30-8pm.
