Work begins on new Northants Police base near Kettering
The construction of the new Northamptonshire Police base near Kettering began this afternoon (Wednesday) with an official ground-breaking ceremony.
The site, which is located just off the A43, will house the Northern Accommodation Hub and Police Investigation Centre.
Work on the site is expected to be complete by spring 2017, and provide space for about 350 staff.
Chief Constable Simon Edens said: “This is a significant development and I am extremely excited by it.
“We are here to protect people from harm and this will help us do that.
“The custody facilities on the site will help us apprehend the most dangerous and vulnerable people and hold them safely.”
Outgoing Police and Crime Commissioner Adam Simmonds, who left office yesterday, said: “I am really excited by this project which will go into the tens of millions of pounds.
“Nobody is doing this level of building and this part of Northants has had much investment so this will bring police to the area.”
Bowmer & Kirkland project director Christian Parnell said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Bowmer & Kirkland from our perspective.
“The location and access of this business park means there is so much potential here.”
It was also officially confirmed today that the force’s current Wootton Hall HQ in Northampton has been sold.
