A woman who lost her husband and two daughters
to cancer is refusing to let
the tragedies put her off raising funds for Northampton General Hospital (NGH).

Ann Williams is holding a garden party at her home in Lumbertubs today (Saturday) to raise money for NGH’s new chemotherapy suite.

After losing 13-year-old daugher Julianne in 1979 , her husband Roy died last February of oesophageal cancer.

Then on April 23 this year, her daughter, Heidi, succumbed to breast cancer.

She said her only way to cope now was to throw all her efforts into raising funds.

She said: “Does it make me bitter? I have to admit that I’m bitter against God for what has happened.

“But that doesn’t change the fact that the hospital needs funds to make other cancer patients’ treatment better. After so many losses you can either sink or you can swim. I chose to swim.”

Mrs Williams hopes to raise funds in Heidi’s memory by selling copies of a poem her daughter wrote before she died – called The Day Before You Came – which Mrs Williams has had printed on bookmarks.

She hopes more will be raised at Saturday’s family -friendly garden party event, which will take place betweefrom 1pm–5pm at 52 Lumbertubs Lane. It includes access to Mrs Williams’ covered swimming pool as well as children’s games, stalls, a tombola and strawberries and cream.
