Woman’s handbag stolen by robber who followed her through streets of Northampton

A 62-year-old woman’s handbag was stolen after she was attacked by a robber who police believe followed her through the St James area of Northampton.

The woman was walking from the direction of Beacon Bingo along Weedon Road, Althorp Road and then into Stanley Road and had almost reached her home when a man approached her and asked her for the time.

As she looked down at her watch, the man grabbed the strap to her handbag. She attempted to resist but the strap broke and she fell back. The offender ran off with her handbag, which included cash and bank cards, in the direction of Greenwood Road.

He is described as being of Caribbean appearance with wispy facial hair, aged 25-35, about 5ft 6in with a slim build. He wore a woolly hat, a light - coloured jacket and blue jeans, and was carrying a white plastic bag.

The robbery happened on Wednesday, March 26 at 10.20pm.
