Woman in life-threatening condition after serious accident on Northampton's A45

A woman in her 60s remains in a life-threatening condition after she was airlifted to hospital following a crash on the A45 earlier today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which happened at 7.50am on the eastbound carriageway of the A45 at the Barnes Meadow flyover.

For reasons yet unknown the car being driven by the woman crossed the carriageway a number of times, hitting the safety barriers and a street lamp before coming to a rest on the grass verge.

Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry for treatment where she remains in a life-threatening condition.

The eastbound carriageway of the A45 has re-opened, however, the slip road from the Bedford Road roundabout to the A45 remains closed.

Officers investigating the incident would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it or who may have any information about what happened.
