Woman, 88, died following crash on A5 near Weedon

A woman has sadly died following a road traffic collision on the A5 near Weedon yesterday afternoon.

The collision took place at the Heyford Lane junction, by the Narrow Boat pub just south of Weedon, shortly after 1pm.

The 88-year-old woman was joining the A5 from Heyford Lane in a blue Renault Clio, turning to head in the direction of Weedon crossroads, when the collision, involving two Foden Tipper trucks, took place.

A grey truck being driven by a 70-year-old man on the A5 towards Towcester collided with the Clio before then colliding with a red and green Tipper truck being driven by a 68-year-old man in the opposite direction.

Sadly the woman died at the scene of the collision and both truck drivers sustained serious injuries and were taken to University Hospital in Coventry by air ambulance.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who may have any information regarding it.
