Witness heard children running away from scene of bungalow blaze in Northampton

Two fire engines from Moulton Fire Station and one from the Mounts were called to put out flames at a derelict bungalow in Booth Rise, in Boothville, at around 2.30pm on Thursday, March 3.

Thick plumes of smoke could be seen around the area, which drifted across nearby Round Spinney Roundabout.

Booth Rise was closed in both directions while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Northamptonshire Police has now launched an appeal for witnesses who may have seen children running away form the scene at the time.

Officers believe the fire, which has gutted the building, was started deliberately.

A force spokeswoman said: “One witness heard children running away from the area and we are appealing for witnesses and any parents who perhaps noticed their children’s clothing smelling of smoke or who had any suspicions about their whereabouts at the time.”
