Just one year ago, as Weston Favell shopping centre celebrated its 40th year, the centre announced the launch of 40 Good Deeds; a project focused on giving back to the local community.

Over the last 365 days the shopping centre has been litter picking, helping in schools, raising money for local and international charities, raising awareness and even donated a hosepipe to a lady called Beryl.

Final good deed number 40 was to support World Down Syndrome Awareness Day at the request of Danny Brown, a regular Weston Favell shopping centre customer and his mum, Eileen.

The centre joined other UK landmarks by lighting up the centre in blue and yellow, set up an information point, manned by Danny and the Weston Favell centre management team, who helped throughout the day.

Mum Eileen said: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Weston Favell shopping centre as well as Jenny’s Restaurant, who also had an awareness display, also the Card Factory who helped with all the balloons.

“Danny had a lovely day and felt so special. It was wonderful to see everyone coming together to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day.”

Other good deeds have seen the centre donate 50 Easter eggs to the Dolphin Disco, a charity that hosts events and special nights for anyone with a disability.
