A student at Weston Favell Academy has achieved the best results in the school’s history by attaining four A* grades in physics, chemistry, mathematics and further mathematics.

Daniel Cookman is the Academy’s top performing student and an will be studying Physics at the University of Manchester.

Overall results showed 64 per cent of students achieved a grade C or above in their A-levels and 36 per cent of pupils achieved a grade B or above, an increase of seven per cent in these higher grades from last year.

There has been a marked improvement in the number of students achieving higher grades across both academic and vocational courses with 45 per cent of students having at least one A* or A grade or Distinction* or Distinction in their qualification profile.

The Sixth Form President, Nicola Withers, attained A grades in both English Language and Religious Studies and a B grade in Geography. She will be taking up a place at the University of Bristol to study Philosophy.

Reginald Afrifa attained an A* grade in Biology, A grades in both Chemistry and Mathematics and a Distinction* in Sports Studies. He will be studying Biotechnology at Imperial College.

Ben Edge attained a grade A* in mathematics, a grade A in Further Mathematics and a grade B in Physics. He will go on to study Physics at University.

After only two years at the academy, Alicja Zdanowicz from Poland achieved a grade A*, two grade B’s and a grade C. She will continue her studies with English as her second Language.

Rachel Steele, Principal, said: “I am delighted with these examination results. They are a testament to all the hard work, dedication and commitment by students and staff at the academy.

“There are some tremendous individual performances which should be celebrated but the most pleasing aspect of these results is that they provide our students with a platform for their future studies and opportunities. I would like to congratulate our A-level students and wish them all continued success in their future endeavours.”

The Weston Favell Academy is one of the 27 Academies sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT).
