An award-winning tearoom is to close its doors as it’s owner looks forward to a new chapter in her life.

After three years of trading, Ria’s Rosy Lee Tearoom in Cambridge Street, Wellingborough, is to close for the final time this weekend.

But it is not all sad news as owner Ria Jefferies is looking forward to a new challenge in a few months’ time.

Ria said: “The tearoom is closing for good reasons as I am pregnant so running a full-time business is not possible.

“It has been an emotional 12 months as this time last year I was diagnosed with borderline ovary cancer so had to have my left ovary removed.

“I didn’t know if I was going to be able to have children because of this so feel very lucky that this little miracle has occurred.

“With that in mind I need to do what I can to protect my own health and that of the baby, which led to the decision to close the tearoom.”

The decision to close the tearoom, which will have its last day of trading on Saturday, was not an easy one for Ria.

She said: “It is a bittersweet ending as I have put a lot of effort into the business with a lot of good memories, including winning the Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Award for best tearoom in 2014.

“I have no regrets though as if I hadn’t opened the tearoom, events would not have led to me meeting my husband and building our little family as we are now.”

But despite the tearoom’s closure, the name Ria’s Rosy Lee will continue as Ria has re-shaped the business model to allow her to work part-time.

She will be using her expertise and experience to offer a range of services, including mobile afternoon teas and vintage china hire packages for special occasions, occasion cake orders specialising in vintage styling, heritage baking including cake orders, talks, and articles, war-time rationing displays and talks, as well as war-time and heritage baking stalls at events and fairs.

Ria can cater for many dietary needs and anyone interested in any of these services can contact Ria on 07771 884120, email riarosy@outlook.com or message her via Ria’s Rosy Lee social pages on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

There will be a grand closing down sale at the tearoom of all fixtures, fittings and excess stock on October 7 and 8.

Items purchased must be paid for in cash and taken on the day.
